Ingredients (serves 4):
For sauce:
*You can make your own panko: coarsely tear stale white bread, then make crumbs using the pulse setting of a food processor.
**This recipe was developed for the Gourmet d'Expert® Electric Skillet (EP-PBC10). Adjustments may be necessary when using other models.
Make the hamburger patties. Place minced onion and garlic in a microwavable bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Microwave at high (1200W) for 1 minute. Remove and spread on a plate to cool down and set aside.
In a separate large bowl, place panko, milk and mix to combine. Add ground beef, ground pork, egg, salt, black pepper, nutmeg, and ketchup to the bowl. Mix very well with a clean hand.
Add heated onion and garlic from step 1 to the meat mixture and mix well.
Divide mixture into 4 oval patties. Dent the center of each patty and place a piece of cheese. Seal in the cheese and shape to form an oval, about 1-1/2" thick. Slightly dent the center of each patty, lightly dust with flour and set aside.
Prepare the sauce. Mix all ingredients for sauce in a pitcher or a bowl and set aside.
Set the Gourmet d’Expert® Electric Skillet (EP-PBC10) to 360ºF and add vegetable oil. When the operation light turns off, place prepared meat patties on skillet and brown both sides - about 3 minutes on each side.
Set the control lever to the right end of the KEEP WARM mark. Add prepared sauce from step 5, cover with lid and cook for 12 minutes. Lower the KEEP WARM temperature by setting the control lever to the middle of the KEEP WARM mark if the sauce reduces too much during cooking.
Plate hamburgers on a serving dish, spoon sauce over and enjoy!
