Steel Cut Oatmeal

Zojirushi Recipe – Steel Cut Oatmeal

Did you know steel cut oatmeal is easy to make in a rice cooker? And the best part? The delay timer. Set up the rice cooker at night, for freshly, and perfectly cooked steel cut oatmeal first thing in the morning!


            	Steel Cut Oatmeal  Ingredients

(Cooked in a 3 cup Zojirushi Rice Cooker)

NOTE: This recipe CANNOT be made in the Pressure IH Rice Cooker (NP-HTC10/18, NP-NVC10/18 model)

Ingredients (serves 2-3):

  • 1 cup (rice measuring cup) steel cut oats
  • Water to fill to water level 1 for "STEEL CUT OATMEAL" or 2-1/2 cups (rice measuring cup
  • 1 cup (rice measuring cup) half & half
  • 3-4 Tbsp. brown sugar

*Please use the rice measuring cup that came with your rice cooker.

Measure steel cut oats accurately using the measuring cup that came with your rice cooker. Place steel cut oats in the inner cooking pan. Add water to the corresponding water level for “STEEL CUT OATMEAL,” or as listed in the ingredients.

Place the inner cooking pan in the main body of the rice cooker and plug in the unit. Cook the steel cut oats using the “STEEL CUT OATMEAL” (if available), or the “PORRIDGE" setting.

When the rice cooker turns to Keep Warm, open the lid, stir and add the remaining ingredients.

Serve warm.

Using the Timer function and soaking the oats overnight will help soften the texture. Please do not use the Timer function when cooking with milk or other dairy products, as they may spoil.

If your rice cooker does not have a porridge setting, please watch the rice cooker while it cooks, as it may overflow.
