Matcha tea powder is made by finely grinding green tea leaves. It is whisked with hot water and served with wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets). The taste is stronger than other green teas because you are consuming the actual tea leaves. Have fun making Matcha, traditional style, with our recipe!
Ingredients (serves 1):
Supplies Needed:
Fill Zojirushi water boiler & warmer with water and set temperature to 175°F.
Place matcha powder into the matcha bowl (chawan).
When the water temperature reaches 175°F, dispense 1/3 cup of the hot water into the matcha bowl. (If using a tea kettle to boil the water pour the boiling water into a separate cup first, then pour that water into the bowl. This will cool the hot water to a suitable temperature.)
Hold the bowl with one hand, and whisk the tea with the matcha whisk rapidly in a zigzag pattern at the center of the bowl, until the powder is dissolved and the tea is topped with thick foam. You may use a milk frother in place of a matcha whisk.
Drink immediately before the powder settles at the bottom of the cup.
