Can you guess what month this is? If you said National Rice Month you would be correct! To celebrate, Zojirushi wants to help you on your journey to better rice at home. Start by choosing the best rice cooker—we’ll show you what to look for. Then we’ll share our delicious rice recipes so you can taste for yourself why we love rice so much. Even if this is your first time cooking rice at home, think of it as your first step toward a whole new world of rice!
Rice is fundamental; and so are our rice cookers. They form the basis of how you can cook the fluffiest, tastiest, tenderest rice that can either be the star of your dinner or be the best support to your entrée. Each of our cookers have important differences, but they all contribute to being able to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine at home. No matter which one you choose to fit your cooking style, it will serve your kitchen for a long time.
Just the basics. ON/OFF switch, (with Keep Warm function on most models) that starts the process of cooking until the rice completely absorbs all the water in the pan. Once done, a thermostat turns off the heat and finishes. Pre-soaking the rice before, and allowing added steaming time after, is required.
With the integrated microchip, menu variations are pre-programmed into the cooker for complete automation. The computerized program controls the ebb and flow of the heat and timing required, depending on the type of rice being set by the menu, which yields perfectly cooked rice every time.
Induction Heating of the inner pan allows the pan itself to conduct heat, resulting in higher cooking temperatures and fluffier rice texture. Pre-soaking and additional steaming times are pre-programmed, enabling the cooker to produce optimally cooked rice.
Adding a combination of pressure and high heat has been proven to enhance the flavor of rice by physically altering its composition. Pre-soaking and additional steaming times are also pre-programmed for perfect results. This is the only model like this sold in the U.S.
At the core of all our rice cookers is the ability to cook Japanese rice well, the foundation of all Japanese cuisine.
Models vary in their ability to cook various grain types. Be sure to consult Menu Setting instructions to confirm your cooker’s functionality when using it for your particular choice.
A measuring cup is included with every Zojirushi Rice Cooker. The cup has a 6-ounce capacity, roughly 3/4 the volume of a normal cup, and is based on a traditional Japanese measurement called a “masu”. A 6-ounce cup of raw rice will expand to double its volume when cooked.
Beyond the Power Button—from Timer functions to Menu settings, each model comes with different ways to cook your rice. Choose the one that best meets your needs.
So you got your first rice cooker but you don’t know what to make? Trust us, you now have the keys to endless gourmet dishes. Our rice recipes not only show you how to cook different kinds of rice; if you substitute brown rice instead of white it’s like opening another dimension. You can also look for ways to use other grains that our cookers can make like oatmeal or quinoa. See that? Even more dishes and more ways to expand your rice-verse.
Japanese cuisine is always top of mind for any Zojirushi rice cooker. Sushi fans will never be disappointed with their results—just gather your ingredients and have a sushi party at home.

Here are some rice facts you may not know. Rice can be used to make a sticky transparent glue that is still used today in Japanese wood crafts. And yes, it’s true that a form of rice mortar was used to hold the bricks together when they built the Great Wall of China. Did you know that rice has been used by American breweries since the 1800s as a supplemental grain to deliver a clean, crisp taste? Yes, there is rice in beer! And even though the high-end papers used in Japanese calligraphy is called “rice paper”, it’s not made from the rice plant at all—it comes from the mulberry tree.
Everyone knows Japan is a hot tourist destination right now. If you’re flying into Narita Airport, did you know the nearby town of Chiba is famous for its futo-maki sushi?
Sake, the rice wine that is just as important to Japan’s culture as rice itself, has been brewed there for over 2500 years. If you’re a fan of sake, you might love to know more.
There is a certain amount of respect for rice and rice farmers in Japan. Don’t waste your leftover rice—learn how to store it and refresh it so it can be delicious again.
